The Cedars

The Cedar is situated within a small residential community in the heart of Mexborough. It is encompassed by local community shops, walking areas, parks, and transport services. The home is also a short walk from the local train station and shopping centre.

The home was renovated in 2020 and is decorated to a high standard. There are five bedrooms which include staff sleeping areas. Within this, the home has the capacity to accommodate three young people.

On the ground floor is a welcoming airy hallway that leads to an open plan Livingroom/dining area. This is a large airy and spacious room that promotes social interaction and activities. Patio doors lead on to an enclosed rear garden which is an ideal area for young people to socialise. Separate from this is a snug area where young people can relax on the sofa, play games, watch TV and have privacy away from their bedroom.

The large newly fitted kitchen can accommodate members of staff and young people. This is helpful and supports young people to engage in cooking activities within the home both individually and as a group.

Within the hallway, there is a staircase that leads to a spacious landing area. This has four bedrooms including a staff bedroom area which includes a computer/office area. There are also two bathrooms both of which have showers. Above this floor is a further staircase which leads to a further attic bedroom which is used as a staff sleeping area.

Young people are encouraged to personalise the home and choose their bedroom where possible. There are a number of areas where young people can be supported to learn and engage in education. The home provides young people with a range of games, activities, and opportunities to engage with staff. The home also has its own vehicle and staff also encourage young people to develop their independent travel skills. Staff also work with young people to choose and plan meals, shopping, cooking, and also gain additional pocket money through incentives.
